6 Covers for your Amazon Kindle 2
Now that you have a Kindle Reader, you need to protect it with a cover. I cannot imagine going without a cover for the Kindle. Spills, drops, rain, dust, a cover protects it from all of these elements. What’s also nice about having your Kindle secured in a cover is that you can attach the mini-light to the cover and have it nicely hover above the Kindle so you can read in low light situations.
Amazon.com is going to have the most available covers for your Kindle, and they will be the cheapest there also. Here is a nice list of covers available for the Amazon Kindle.
1. The Official Amazon Kindle 2 Protective Cover
This is the Kindle cover designed by Amazon specifically for the Kindle 2. It has the Amazon Kindle logo on the front, and comes in any color you want, as long as its black.
The cool thing about this cover is that it has a latch inside made to “snap” in your Kindle 2 to keep it securely fastened to the cover itself. This is a GREAT idea.
The cover is made with genuine leather, and reviews seem to be good overall. Some people would like to see a strap or a latch to keep the cover closed. This is a feature that many other covers have. Other than that it is a great cover for your Kindle 2. It’s nice that Amazon is offering a high quality lower cost alternative to other covers after you shelled out the big bucks to get the Kindle Reader. Cost $29.99
This is a really good idea. The cover flips open and can act like a stand, podium, or platform for your Kindle 2. It comes in all types of colors and even 2 types of materials; fake leather or real leather. There are straps to secure the Kindle 2 to the cover on all 4 corners and a strap to keep the cover closed also. This cover is also Kindle 2 specific. Cost $44.99
3. OCTO Faux Leather Slip Cover
This is a neat looking cover. Some people might prefer this to others because it does not attach itself to the Kindle, only provides protection when the Kindle is not in use. That way the Kindle isn’t bulked up with weight and size while you are doing some reading.
The cover is a nice looking fake leather that comes in 2 colors; dark brown or light brown. This cover is specifically for the 2nd Generation Kindle, or Kindle 2. Cost $25
This cover is a favorite among many Kindle 2 owners. The concept of a sleeve versus the strapped in cover is a benefit to most people. Also, with this cover you get the added protection of it being somewhat more resistant to spills because of the neoprene fabric and the use of a zipper. It only comes in black and is specific to the Kindle 2. Cost $24.99
If you check it out on Amazon, you can actually see a cool video review of the Belkin Sleeve.
5. OCTO Leather Travel Pouch for the Kindle 2
This is the cover for the business traveler. It is made of high quality Italian leather and comes in black. The Kindle cover / organizer is able to also hold your passport, business cards, pens, and other miscellaneous scraps of paper.
This Kindle cover uses the Amazon hinge to secure the Kindle 2 to itself, which is a really nice feature of this cover considering its made for travelling. Cost $84.99
6. Cole Haan Hand-Woven Patent Leather Cover for Kindle 2
Here is the Cadillac of covers for your Kindle. This cover comes in many colors and looks fantastic. The inside is suede leather and will never scratch your Kindle. The Cole Haan uses the Kindle hinge to secure it to the cover and does not have a closing strap. If you look around on Amazon you will see that this cover also comes in a couple different outer leather styles. Cost $119.99

7. TrendyDigital MaxGuard Leather Cover for Amazon Kindle 2
Here is another cool cover I just recently found. This cover really stands out of the pack because of how much it actually “covers up” the Kindle. You actually slide the Kindle into the inside sleeve of the cover. There is no clear plastic panel covering the kindle itself, just a leather band surrounding it and crossing over the center, it’s not going anywhere. Also the cover is cool because of the nice snap latch it has and the extra inside pouch to hold some paper. Stylish too. Cost $27.99

I can’t believe you didn’t mention the Oberon covers. I ordered one for the Kindle I am giving my wife for her birthday, and it is a work of art as well as serving to protect the Kindle. It’s a little pricey at $75, but for a thing of functional beauty, that’s not bad.
Wow, I hadn’t run into those. Thanks for mentioning them, I plan on doing a write up on it. They do look great.
