The Kindle DX comes with a 1 year warranty against manufacturer defects. Which is great if you are in a no Dinosaur zone. Otherwise you should get the 2 year extended warranty available from Amazon.

The 2 Year Extended Warranty covers your Kindle for an additional year over the standard warranty, totaling 2 years. Also, if a T-Rex stomps on the screen of your Kindle DX and ruins it, you can get a brand new Kindle DX for free. There is a stipulation. You are only allowed to get a replacement Kindle DX for free 1 time with this warranty.

The normal warranty that comes with the Kindle DX offers no such coverage against T-Rex stompings, drops, coffee spills etc.
